These climate changes have prompted awareness and adoption of sustainable materials and design in all fields including construction. Governments and corporates have started taking up sustainability on a very serious note and this has lead to more focus on Green & sustainable construction.
Green building (also known as green construction or sustainable building) refers to both a structure and the application of processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle: from planning to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition.
World over, Governments/Corporations are promoting and offering incentives to home/building owners to construct green buildings and reduce the environmental impact on planet earth.
Many organizations & and rating organizations have developed standards, norms & protocols for certifying products/buildings which can be certified as green products/projects.
When talking about Green Homes/buildings, environmental performance and energy efficiency come to mind. Hence this can lead rating agencies to focus on building systems most commonly associated with energy and the environment, such as insulation, appliances, and HVAC, however, plumbing systems can influence several critical components of home performance that are important to today’s home buyer. These impacts not only include environmental performance but can extend further to cover water quality and human health issues.

GRIHA Accredits FlowGuard® Plus
In India, the Lubrizol team took up the accreditation from GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) council for enlisting FlowGuard® Plus as a Green product under the GRIHA Green catalog.
Lubrizol team shared all environmental performance data along with LCA reports. GRIHA, after evaluating all the submittals listed FlowGuard® Plus CPVC piping system under GRIHA (V.2015) criterion - 31, GRIHA (V.3) criterion - 34, and SVAGRIHA Criterion – 14 (Innovation Category)
The enlistment of FlowGuard® Plus shall benefit home/building owners to use FlowGuard® Plus CPVC piping systems and gain additional points under the Innovation section and move closer to their endeavor of building certified green buildings under GRIHA ratings.
Internationally, the FlowGuard® team had got the plumbing pipe industry’s first ISO compliant, 3rd party cradle-to-grave Life Cycle Assessment and detailed environmental product reports, to demonstrate product environmental performance.
In the United States, due to the above favorable environmental performance when compared to copper and PEX, FlowGuard® Gold CPVC is the only residential NGBS Green Certified plumbing piping system and contributes to both LEED and NGBS credits.
